Description
The artist Johann Moritz Rugendas (1802 Augsburg - 1858 Weilheim an der Teck) spent about half of his life on the road. Not only his extensive forays through Latin America, but also and above all his experiences in Italy and his stays in Paris left clear traces in his work. These reflections are closely interwoven with the particular exceptional situation of traveling. On the one hand, the Augsburg artist's travel pictures are a scientific document of his tours, but on the other hand they also bear witness to his emotional participation.
The works from the context of his travels thus have a special emotional character. The analyses of the pictures shed light on the specific refractions within this significant characteristic of his works and form the core of the present work.
