Description
This catalog is published on the occasion of the exhibition
Painted with meticulousness. Paintings and prints by Heinrich Hintze 1800-1861
at the Potsdam Museum - Forum for History and Art from September 9 to November 26, 2017
Published by the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) and the Potsdam Museum - Forum for History and Art, Potsdam 2017.
The exhibition was created in cooperation between the Potsdam Museum - Forum for History and Art and the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg
To date, both the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation and the Potsdam Museum have presented 19th century landscape and architectural painting in numerous exhibitions. The artist Heinrich Hintze himself has so far only been represented in survey exhibitions in Potsdam and Berlin. This is all the more astonishing as the artist's painterly and graphic oeuvre, apart from the formally and technically brilliant realization of his chosen subjects, unites the entire spectrum of the beauty of Potsdam's cultural landscape. Like few of his contemporaries, Hintze was also able to capture impressions of his numerous travels on paper and thus create artistic connections between the most diverse geographical regions. Gerd Bartoschek, former curator of the painting collection at the SPSG and an expert on 19th century landscape painting, recognized the gap in research and took on Hintze's work in a multi-year research project.
