Description

"The world must be romanticized.
That's how you find the original meaning again"

Although the Romantic movement is a European phenomenon, there is hardly any other region where it is as deeply rooted and as pronounced as in German-speaking countries.
What began as an idea in the philosophical and artistic sphere soon had a fundamental impact on society as a whole and also had far-reaching political consequences.
This chronicle outlines the cultural developments of Romanticism from the 1770s to the middle of the 19th century and, in its chronological order, provides a quick and comprehensive overview of the various stages of Romanticism in Germany.

Dr. Bärbel Kovalevski (*1937) studied history at the Humboldt University in Berlin and completed her doctorate at the Institute for Art History at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald. She worked in various museums and published on the art and history of Mecklenburg/Western Pomerania, the Meissen State Porcelain Manufactory and the Saxon Art Association. She is particularly interested in research into the life and work of artists of the 18th and 19th centuries, which she publicizes in numerous publications, exhibitions and lectures.
and lectures.
